Kicked Out is released!

“Kicked Out,” published by local publisher Homofactus Press, is an anthology edited by Sassafras Lowrey. “Kicked Out” compiles stories of young people who were kicked out of their homes due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Recent research estimates that 40% of all homeless youth in the United States identify as LGBTQ. A contribution to Ozone House's "Kicked Out Fund," established with the support of Homofactus Press, supports Ozone House’s work on behalf of local LBGTQ youth. Click here for more information!

The BIG 4-Ozone

We had a rockin' good time celebrating our 40th birthday party on Friday, June 19th! We made new friends, caught up with people who have been involved with Ozone House over the decades, and enjoyed some awesome bands. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, and to the wonderful volunteers made the whole thing happen!

At the event, three Ozone Action Awards were presented to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and commitment to Ozone House and youth in our community:

• Marti LaChapell and Missy Orge of Food Gatherers were honored for arranging hot meals and training opportunities for Ozone House youth through the Food Gatherers’ Community Kitchen and its Job Training Program.

• Midwest Wheels of Hope & South Michigan Wheels were recognized for organizing “The Rally in Hell.” This annual motorcycle rally brings over 3000 attendees to Hell, Michigan, and generates nearly $20,000 in net proceeds to support programming at Ozone House!

• Susan McGraw was honored for her free 6-week “What’s Your Story?” program provided to youth at Ozone House to prepare them to talk about themselves, their lives, and their job in a positive way.

Ellen Rabinowitz and Pam Kisch started their careers together at Ozone House 20 years ago. Both are now Executive Directors of key agencies within the area’s social services. Ellen leads the Washtenaw Health Plan, while Pam heads up the Fair Housing Center of Southeastern Michigan.

Over 30 attendees gathered together for a group photo of past & present staff and volunteers for Ozone House.
